The Fallas of Valencia are already UNESCO Intangible Heritage of Humanity. They have been releasing their new title since 2016 after the jury from 24 countries has made this decision. This seal of quality is the reward for many years of work and preparation. It is not a direct economic contribution but rather a global recognition, even so it represents an important distinction for tourism.
You may not remember it anymore, but in 2016 the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) included the Fallas of Valencia in its Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
The obligation is to keep this festivity “alive” and it should not change in any aspect. The committee has assessed that it is a festival with “collective expression” and that “safeguards traditional arts and crafts.”
It is one more reason to come to Valencia and discover this great local festival, which can also be enjoyed in a small way in Denia.
Denia has a great Fallas tradition and its celebrations last more than a week. For many families in Denia they are the most important days of the year, they even spend their entire vacation preparing and celebrating. The Fallas girls called “Falleras” need months to prepare their beautiful dresses and the artists who assemble the ninots work day and night.
